The secret to a great Mojito
The Mojito is one of the most iconic cocktails made with white rum. A refreshing highball with Cuban roots. The Mojito preparation may be quick, but choosing the right ingredients makes all the difference.
Instead of brown cane sugar, the original Mojito recipe calls for fine white cane sugar, which dissolves easily in the drink. Alternatively, cane syrup works just as well.
Another key to the perfect mint cocktail is, of course, the right kind of mint. It shouldn’t be too sharp, which is why peppermint isn’t ideal for making a Mojito. For a more balanced mint flavor, go with spearmint or the so-called Mojito Mint.
As described in the recipe, lightly bruising the mint with a clap releases its aroma. Once it’s in the glass, press it gently, don‘t crush it completely or it will turn bitter.
